I'm not sure what you mean by "...to go dead...". But you mean that your car does not idle properly then first of all you need to check the computer for trouble codes and freeze frames. If your codes are ok, you need run diagnostics for Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Also it's a good idea if you check your air filter. It might be clogged and needs to be replaced.
