the hunter ring is an English type of riding where the horse is judged on good looks, form over fences, and the overall way of going. it is judged on a score from 0 to 100.

the fences are not as tall as jumpers (which is judged purely on speed) and the fences are usually natural in color with hedges or brush underneath.

although not officially being judged, the rider too must have perfect form to get a blue ribbon.

turnout is extremly important in hunters, horses are expected to be braided, well groomed, and the rider is also expected to be dressed to the 9's.
