bad bacteria makes you sick if inhaled or ingested, so people come in contact if they don't wash their hands before eating, touching their face, biting nails (anything that allows hands to contact the mouth, nose, eyes)

also if someone is around an infected, contagious person: infectious coughed up droplets may be inhaled and absorbed into the other person's lungs.
