Indie is not who you are, It is a form of music/film. Indie music is a form of music produced by Indipendent Recording Companies, All Indie music does not fit into one genre it ranges from mainly folk - Alternative Rock/Punk. Indie artists are not usually in the mainstream due to low publicity, and the fanbase is usually smaller than compared to Mainstream artists, but they fans are usually much more dedicated due to a sense of connection to the band.
Many people tend to think indie rock is a style of music when in fact it just means that the band is with an independent (indie) music publisher and not with the bigger labels. Although you tend to find that indie labels will sign more bands/singers from alternative forms of music whereas bigger labels like to sign bands/singers from mainstream. Hipsters and Indie people are almost the same. Hipsters are people who buy the latest fashion trends such as Vans, Toms, or Sperry's. They basically just buy most of the hyped up things before they become mainstream. Whereas an Indie person buys the bohemian style clothing which is a trend too, so they are also following the hype.
