The People's Republic of China; most Chinese follow at least SOME Daoist teaching, even if they are not "hardcore." Even the Shaolin temple could not escape its influence; although Bodhidarma knew all about Chi, the Shaolin temple acquired much Chi Kung exercises from monks who learned it from Daoist hermits. Occassionally, a given Shaolin monk would have an encounter with an internal martial artist, impressed they would beg them to take them up as students, and once the knowledge was acquired, they would take it back to the Shaolin temple. All that stuff in Kung Fu movies, where the Daoist is the bad guy, and the Shaolin temple and Daoists are enemies is a load of crap; although many Daoists have indeed been evil, like for example the head of the Yellow Turban Cult of the late Han, however for the most part all Daoist schools have a relatively clean track reccord compared to other religious and spiritual systems. The truth is, Daoism and Buddhism have always been on good terms, and had peaceful exchanges of knowledge in China, and the two have influenced each other. The whole notion of "Wuji" or emptyness for example, is central to meditation in the Shaolin temple, and to advancement in Martial Arts. Likewise many Daoist schools believe in the law of Karma, translated in the west as meaning the "law of cause and effect." Karma is best translated in western terms by Newton's law "for every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction." The greater the good you do (coming from the heart mind), the greater the good is returned to you, the greater the evil you do the greater the evil is returned to you. In the United States, white men killed native americans. Now this country has feminism. How's that for Karmic punishment? [[User:67.148.120.72|67.148.120.72]]stardingo747
