The whole assembly snaps out. Pry the outside (rearmost) end of the lens out. Once its out the socket unscrews from the back of the lens and the lamp can be pulled out of the socket. It uses a #168 lamp.
open hood. just behind light assembly there are two white nylon clips pull up then slide off nipples on back of light assembly. pull the whole light assembly out of front of car unhook the plug and light is free. reverse for installation.
They are on the back side of the instrument cluster. You have to pull the assembly out from the front.
Open hood, there will be 2 black metal slide locks in the back of the light assembly. After that, work the light assembly out the front, disconnect the plug and change out the light.
I just changed the ashtray light in my 2000 Windstar LX. It is probably similar. Open the ashtray. Take a regular screwdriver and insert it between the top of the ashtray and the dash board in the center of the ashtray. There is a latch hidden there. Lift the screwdriver handle, which will press down on the latch. Then simply pull out the ashtray. It will be connected by the wires for the light. You can either disconnect the wires or carefully turn over the ashtray. When you turn it over you will see the light assembly attached to the wires. It snaps out of the ashtray. Then you can remove the light from the assembly by releasing the latches of both sides of the assembly. Then the light pulls straight out. Putting it back together is a little tricky. Once you have the new light installed and the light assembly put back together you need to reinstall the light assembly. This is a bit of trouble. Perhaps putting a piece of scotch tape around the assembly will help to get it aligned. It snaps back into place. Reconnect the wires if necessary and reinsert the ashtray.
To replace the upper light on the hatchback door, the plastic trim piece just snaps in place, once that is removed the light assembly snaps down to reveal the bulb. The stop lights on the body have the attaching screws covered by plastic plus, just pry them out and remove the screws and the assembly can be removed
There is a plastic cover inside the rear door jamb along side the tailight assembly. This cover snaps off and back on but take care not to break it as it does take some effort to remove.
There is a single screw above each front parking light assembly. You will need a 7mm socket to remove the screw. After the screw is removed, simply pull on the assembly from the back corner and pull straight forward.
I just changed the driver side brake light bulb in my 2005 Nissan Altima. There is a round plastic clip on the verticle carpet cover which must first be removed to access the back of the tail light assembly. Squeeze the back side of the clip and pull on the front of the clip until it snaps out. There are then two 5/16 nuts which must be removed. These are hidden by plastic wiring brackets which must be removed from the nut shaft. The light assembly can then be removed - note that there are two allignment posts attached to the assembly which slide thru slots on the out-side of the assembly. Carefully pull or pry backward to remove the assembly from the body of the car. Here you may access the back of the affected bulb. Simply turn to the left and remove/replace the bulb. Hopefully you will not be doing this as I did in Texas on a 105 degree day.
Pop the hood. Remove the front shroud cover to expose the radiator and light assemblys. Remove the head lamp assembly by removing the vertical light brackets. These brackets are vertical metal holders for the lamp assembly. They are removed by pulling up and there are two per side. You will see them once you remove the front shroud cover which exposed the light assembly's. The light brackets will have hard rubber attached to the top on each one to facilitate their removeall. Once you have removed the brackets, the entire light assembly will slide forward. You will need to guide the wiring so that you can slide the light assembly forward. Once you have the entire assembly slid forward you can remove the light socket from the back of the assembly and change the bulb.
From outside, take a screws out to get light assembly loose and remove light socket from back of assembly and channge your light bulb, then put it back.
You can change the bulb by taking the backside of the light assembly off first! The bulb connector just pulls out and snaps back in place its not that hard I had to do it on my 1997 sebring it was simple. The small bulb can be bought at Pep Boys or any parts store at a low price. Have parts dealer look up part for you. The front head light glass doesn't need to come off at all.
