Unfortunately,, the Mazda engineers located the PCV valve on the 3.0L engines under the intake manifold--essentially right under the throttle body. You can't see it until you pull the upper intake manifold off. I would definitely change out the PCV valve if you are replacing the spark plugs since the manifold has to come off to get to the back 3 spark plugs. A big hint here,, the pcv valve has to be turned 90degrees to the left to get it out of the housing.. a 7/8" 12 point deep socket seems to work. Look at your new pcv valve and you will see what I mean. Once you finally feed in the new pcv valve,, it must be turned 90degrees to the right to get it onto place. A 12" set of needle nose pliers might help also to get the hose off the pcv valve. Gerald

You need to remove one hex screw that attaches plastic cover to engine and remove plastic cover. Once removed you will see silver pipe at the end of the pipe plugged in engine sits PCV valve. PCV valve plugged into engine by it's mettalic side, so only plastic side is visible. Easiest way to understand how PCV valve sits is to buy new valve in auto parts store, remove plastic cover that covers fuel lines in front of engine and find a part that looks like PCV valve.

Good luck Joe To replace the PCV valve: 1) Remove SC plastic shroud, 2) Note the black plastic PCV cover about 3 inches to the right of the shroud bolt, on top of the SC/Intake Manifold. It does not have a hose connected to it!! 3) Remove the 2 10mm bolts and lift off the PCV Cover. 4) A hold down coil spring can be removed and 5) the PCV valve sits in the recess. Reverse assembly with new PCV valve. With this location DO NOT EXPECT big change in operation - the old valve just gets a little varnished...
