You'll need to look into what your vehicle requires for its transmission. Manual transmissions use gear oil typically, but automatic transmissions use automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF). Older Fords with automatic transmissions typically use "Mercon V" automatic transmission fluid. Auto part stores will typically carry a variety of different brands of Mercon V, ranging from high-end name brands to generic brands, which are respectively more expensive and cheaper. In my personal opinion, Advance Auto Parts has the cheapest price on their fluids, in relation to other auto part stores. There are also a variety of places you could buy the fluid online, but you will have to pay shipping on the fluid, and this oftentimes is not cost-effective.
