A bar graph can be used for a lot of things. That is why they teach it in school! It is used for a lot of things in the world, for example it could be used to compare the amount of money made by different companies or the amount of people with AIDS in different parts of Africa. It can not be used to show something over a period of time though. You would use a line graph for that!
