To my knowledge, the .FORGE extension has only just been understood as an archive or container file, which stores thousands of files.Much like the .PAK files in Doom 3 and possibly a plethora of other types. Now, the files stored in the FORGE containers can be extracted by the use of a program called Maki (formerly Turfster, I believe), which you will have to Google to find it. Having said that, the files you extract have been cleverly encoded and appear without extension.
In my exhausting attempts to mass rename all the extracted files the basic game file types (DDS, PNG, WAV, OGG, SWF, OBJ, etc), I have only come across a few Ogg Vorbis audio files and those are mainly ambience and music files. AS for the rest... anyone's guess.
So, when I say that the files are still in research phases as to their types, there is no mods available, but it would be aweome if there was a modding community to add to this scectacular series and make it truly immortal.
