The Federal Trade Commission, Money Magazine, and Consumer reports, among others, have information about wiping out debt. There are also many nonprofit debt counseling services that could help. Just be sure to check the Better Business Bureau or local Attorney General's office to avoid scams.

What worse bankruptcy or debt relief?

If you have a pile of unpaid credit card bills and simply can't pay the total amount due. Then you have two options for dealing with the debt you've accumulated: liquidation or bankruptcy. When you declare bankruptcy, you're asking court to wipe your financial slate clean.

What should you do if you can't pay your credit card bills?

Call your creditors and request a lower interest rate first, let them know you are having difficulty paying your bills. Ask if they can lower your minimum payment. If all else fails, go to a credit councelor (free in most cases) and get some help. You can also consider taking out a loan (or home equity loan) to pay it all off and consolidate your cards. Just be sure that once you get the loan and wipe out your credit card debt, that you cut up the cards or put them away so you can't spend and get yourself into debt again.

Can a debt owed to a bank in another country be collected in the us?

== == YES of course. Just because you moved doesn't wipe out your debts. They follow you wherever you go in the world.

Which is better repossession or bankruptcy?

Better is not the best word, but a chapter 7 could wipe out the car debt and your other debt. If you just to the repo - they can still come after you for the 4500 dollar difference if they sell it for only 4k (most likely it will be sold for 2k or so) which would make the debt higher. Both will hurt your credit so if you are going to take the hit, I recommend you get rid of all of the debt and have some money to pay for things you need. Of course going bankrupt takes money too! Bankruptcy means that you will lose your home, as does repossession. The only way to stop either is to start repaying your debts and there are many financial solutions companies out there which could help. If you have mortgage arrears then speak to your mortgage lender ASAP, you may be able to come up with a repayment plan to repay your mortgage arrears along with your future mortgage payments. It is always important that you take action sooner rather than later so that your bankruptcy or repossession can be stopped.

If I declare bankruptcy to stop credit card debt do I still owe interest on the credit cards?

You are STILL liable for the balance owing on the account. It is up to the credit card company how they decide to recover the debt. Companies would rather recover debt at a lower repayment over a longer period - than wipe out the debt altogether.

Is there a program that can wipe out all of my medical bills im on social securety and Disability..i cant afford to pay my medical bills so if there is a way to get them off my credit ....PLEASE let me know .. Lodis James Lafferty ..?

About the only way to wipe out medical debt is to declare bankruptcy. Currently over 60% of bankruptcies are done because of the overwhelming costs of medical care. You should look in your yellow pages for attorneys who deal with bankruptcy....look for one that offers a free consultation. The only other thing I can think of is you could contact a credit solutions company but that will not remove the debt from your credit record and they do not pay off your debt, they will just help you arrange a payment plan that you can afford.

How can you take legal action if you found out that your wife intercepted a credit card that was mailed to you in your name only and used it without your knowledge?

If you are not at least separated there isn't much you can do and if she has charged anything on that credit card you will be responsible for paying for it. I suggest you call the credit card company and have them take her name off the credit card and it will be in your name solely and be sure they protect you against others using your card (this can be done at a minimal fee.) A word of advice ... change your banking accounts if you have any because if you have joint accounts she can wipe you out! Marcy

Why should you never keep a credit card near a magnet?

You should never keep a credit card neat a magnet because that black strip at the bottom of the card is actually a sort of memory like in a computer chip. The magnet makes all this memory wipe to either become 1 or 0(depending on the direction). Also, if you are using a card with a swipe chip, this will also be wiped.

Do xray machines see through credit cards?

They will show the embedded microchip - and also wipe the card clean ! X-rays are simply high-powered radio waves.

Can you re-magnetize the strip on the back of a credit card?

You can't !... You can wipe the card's magnetic strip by stroking a magnet along its length. However - this will erase the data on the card, and render it useless. Once the card has been wiped, it would need to be re-coded by the card company.

Has anyone used debt clear and CMS court mediation servicessuccessfully This company claims that credit card debt can be completely wiped out and that your credit score will not be affected. help?

It's a scamPOSITIVE REVIEW CMS sends a payment using one of their checks to the cc company using the cc company's own tactics; by stating that cashing this check binds them to this new contract that lists the fees and penalties that they will incur if they charge any late fees, charge any interest, report negatives to the credit agencies that appear on your credit report, etc. THEY ALWAYS CASH THE CHECK AND IT IS BINDING. CMS sends $10 each month and they send it intentionally late so the company will add a late charge which in turn incurs a penalty fee for them. CMS does this until they rack up more in penalties than you owe on the card. It then comes down to wiping your account clear or going to court. THEY NEVER GO TO COURT BECAUSE THEY KNOW THE CONTRACT IS BINDING AND THEY WILL LOSE. I know it sounds too good to be true but it really does work. It takes about 6 to 10 months to wipe out your debt completely and another 6 - 8 months to fix your credit. They can repair your FICO because they prove that the cc company never loaned you money to begin with and therefore, cannot report anything to the credit agencies under federal financial law. The credit agencies wipe all negatives from your report because they know this to be true and will not dispute it. THE QUESTION OF LEGALITY The people in the CMS marketing scheme are working overtime to promote the program, but they cannot get around the legal issues and are faced with trying to confuse people about whether or not a debtor can actually assign a debt to a third party without the knowledge and assent of the creditor.RIPOFF REPORT BRAD DALEY - Fraudulent Lawyer.http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/235/RipOff0235669.htm
