Go to www.collegeboard.com to sign up for the SAT's. During the sign-up process, you will be prompted to enter your zip code, and you will be given choices as to where you can take the test on the date for which you are registering to take it. The test is normally offered at various local high schools on a Saturday morning. You don't have to take it at the school you attend; you can sign up to take it wherever is most convenient for you on that day. Make sure you copy your high school guidance counselor on your "ticket" for the test so that he/she can then follow through with her/his part in terms of obtaining and maintaining your scores on file. You will be able to check your SAT scores on the collegeboard.com site when they have been processed. You will also refer back to this site when you are ready to send your scores to your choice of college(s). As of a few years ago, you can no longer selectively "hide" SAT or SAT subject scores. Every SAT test you take will be seen by the schools to which you send them.
You need to make sure that you sign up for SAT test times as soon as they are announced. Do not put this off or procrastinate. Take some time beforehand to decide when you want to take the test. This will allow you to sign up right away, without having to stop and think. The test segments will fill up quickly, and you do not want to have to wait until the next time.
Contact your high school counseling office. They will have the forms and booklets for the test. You sign up, pay your fee, and they will send you the time, date, and place for the test.
