I buy my chicken feed at my local co-op. If you do not have a co-op or one with a feed mill, you could try a farm supply store like Tractor Supply or Fleet Farm (upper midwest).

What does a hen eats?

From the time the new chicks leave the shell they should be given a chick starter food. This is available either in medicated or un-medicated form. The chick starter is small pre-ground and simply digestible. At about 2 months a small amount of chick grower can be added and increased each day until the birds are off the chick starter and eating only the grower. Full grown hens eat crushed/milled grains mixed with animal-based proteins and other minerals (particular emphasis on calcium and phosphorus for egg production).
