You won't be able to legally find it in WI, I always head on down to IA and pick some up right across the border. I believe it is legal in IL as well, just not in WI, since 05 or 06 roughly when they banned it to general public.

You do not want to buy Freon as it is very, very, expensive. Have the leak repaired, the system purged of all Freon R12 and the oil. Have it converted over to R134 refrigerant. You cannot just add R134 as the oil used in R12 is not compatible with R134. You will be money ahead by converting it.

The freon should be R12, Which requires a license to buy these days and is very expensive. You can buy a kit to convert it to R134 freon, You should check with your local auto parts store for prices
