The Rubik's brand 5x5 (which is awful) should be sold in most big toy stores. If you are willing to buy online www.Amazon.com is good. But if these options aren't possible try a small puzzle shop if they don't have ask them if they can special order it.
But if you going online the best 5x5 on the market is the V-cube 5 sold at www.v-cubes.com. Downsides are the expense and V-cubes is based in Greece so postage might be a problem.
Search on the web for other brands such as Eastsheen, QJ and Mefferts.

http://www.cubelagoon.com/?ref=1285 Basically, you answer surveys to gain points and then use those points to claim prizes. Such as a rubiks cube. Its 100% free. I've gotten a 3x3 white cube and a 4x4 rubiks cube from here. Its very fast. For a 2x2 cube, its 4.75 points and each survey is around 0.5-2 points. So you can get it in no time. Just use that link and sign up and start answering surveys.
If you meant who "invented" the Rubik's cube then Erno Rubik did in 1974.
