the tensioner assembly is bolted to the side of the engine block. the spring is contained within the assembly. View my BIO for access to my Saturn help site. there is a picture of the assembly under the Serpentine belt folder
body, spring, follower
You have to take the whole strut assembly off (shock and spring). Then with a spring compressor on the coil spring, take the top nut off the strut shaft and take the spring off. Once the spring is off the whole strut assembly is replaced which will contain a new shock. Then you already have the spring compressed, so you put the old spring on to new strut (shock) put the top back on, release the spring and tighten the nut. You have to have a vise to clamp the strut into to replace the strut body.
the return spring on the clutch pedal assembly must be replaced.
AnswerWhy not get the whole assembly at a salvage yard?
The tension spring is broken, and the entire assembly must be replaced.
We have them. gunshop@nctv.com
There are many "How to " videos on the internet. These videos show you step by step lens assembly.
Belt tensioner is not adjustable. Assembly is spring loaded, spring can loose tension. If belt stretches or is too long (wrong part) then .... (There are marks on assembly to indicate proper tension.)
