Are you referring to the jig currently being sold on the web for making the rope halter's fiador knot? I purchased one of those jigs; I found it awkward, time consuming, and confusing to use.

In addition, the instructions included (with the jig) on how to tie the rest of the rope halter were vague, and poorly done. This made the whole halter-tying process a frustrating and time consuming experience.

Fortunately, thanks to my local library, I discovered a better way.

My suggestion is to get a copy of the book, Halter-Tying Success, Second Edition by Diane Longanecker. Check with your local library. Although the book is sold on the internet, I found a copy available through inter-library loan.

The illustrations in this book are wonderful. In a clear, concise way, the drawings take you step-by-step through the entire process of making a rope halter.

And the well-illustrated instructions on tying the fiador knot made this commonly frustrating knot so amazingly simple to tie! (Far faster and easier than using the jig.)

With Longanecker's book I was not only able to correctly tie the fiador knot and double-overhand knots, and the resulting rope halter actually fits my horse. It was a wonderful outcome for a fun journey.
