If you want a practical sword (For people planning to start Martial Arts or train with one):

oriental-weaponry.co.UK - This is a very good manufacturer and I have purchased swords off them before, they also sell Martial arts weapons like Nunchaku, Staffs, Bokken etc.

medieval-weaponry.co.UK/index.HTML - This is another good website with weapons from the same company that set up Oriental Weaponry, Hanwei. Although this site does also contain some ornamental swords from other companies.

For a sword that isn't going to be used (For people who want something awesome to hang on the wall, these swords are also usually much, much cheaper But not always ;)

.blades-UK.com- Sells loads of swords and some Movie Replicas.

.bladesandbows.co.UK - Very god site and also sells martial arts equipment.

For a sword that is the real thing (This is the site for real antique collectors, it sells Swords, Bayonets, Knives, Daggers, Deactivated Guns, suits of armour, military objects and also some cannons :)

For those in the states you should avoid overseas online stores due to shipping costs. All of the quality sword manufacturers distribute to the US through their dealers. Find the brand you want and then find a quality dealer. I of course have my favorite, but cannot post it here. Regardless of who you choose, don't be afraid to haggle. If they won't haggle, then they aren't worth your time. The sole exception is a Legacy Arms/Generation 2 sword. This manufacturer does not allow any advertised discounting.

Here is a quick list of some of the better brands for good prices. Remember big $ doesn't mean quality. I would advise you to avoid any below the $150 range unless it fits into the following brands. Legacy Arms, CAS Hanwei, Valiant Armory, United Cutlery, Global Gear, Darksword, Cheness, Windlass and Dapeeka

You can purchase a wide variety of swords online. Posted a link for your reference. Things to look for when purchasing a sword:

What are you looking for, functional, or just a wall hanger?

If you are looking for a functional sword, some things you want to make sure of is that it is carbon steel so that it is hard enough for cutting (opposed to stainless) and that it has a full tang so the blade doesn't fly out of the hilt when swinging it.

You can usually expect to pay around $300 (sometimes less, sometimes more) for a decent functional sword. You can find non-functional swords for under $100.
