Filter sand can be purchased from pool shops or from online distributors such as "intheswim.com". Sand for the bottom of a pool can be purchased from some sand and gravel quarries. Look in your yellow pages. Ask for masonary sand for Swimming Pools. It is sold by the ton. When I bought mine there was a minimum payment of 1 ton. I picked up my sand in a pickup truck 1 ton at a time.(four trips) Delivery was available, for a delivery fee. Ask about it when you call the quarry.
Sand is for sale in bags at places like nurseries, where you can buy plants and trees, at all masonry stores where you can buy gravel and stones for your garden.
Builders supply stores will be able to help you
Considering that wholesalers TYPICALLY do not sell to anyone without a contractors license or at least a pool license, I'd buy it online. I wouldn't go to a Leslie's type store because of high prices. But it won't hurt to ask. TRY ONLINE.
