Walmart sold them in the mid 1990's. They had a 18" barrel. I think they sold for around $280.00 with no sights.
The Savage Model 112 is a bolt-action rifle designed for precision shooting, and the ".22-250" refers to its chambering for the .22-250 Remington cartridge, known for its high velocity and accuracy, making it popular among varmint hunters. The term "barrel twist" refers to the rate at which the rifle's rifled barrel imparts spin to the bullet, which is crucial for stability and accuracy; for the .22-250, a common twist rate is 1:14 or 1:12, suitable for stabilizing a range of bullet weights. The "Savage Mod 112" is known for its heavy barrel and solid construction, making it a favored choice for long-range shooting.
Heavy Barrel was created in 1987.

It's ammo for the very first version of the "30-caliber machinegun" M-1919, which is the smaller version of the M-2 HB (means either 'heavy barrel' or 'hydraulic buffer') .50-caliber machinegun.

The Savage 9317 is a sweet, accurate, bolt action rifle in the .17 HMR caliber. There are several variations to this rifle including a regular, stainless steel model, and a thumb hole stock model. There are also three styles of stocks available which include: synthetic. laminated, and walnut. Savage also produces this firearm in a left handed version for all those southpaws out there! I own the 9317 GVXP which has the 21 3/4 heavy barrel and the Walnut stock. It came supplied with a factory mounted and bore-sighted Simmons Scope. These guns also come with Savage's "accutrigger", which is adjustable from 6 down to 2.5 lbs. I love mine. These guns offer alot for not much money, and are worth every penny!

A heavy barrel has less metal removed when it is being contoured from a blank. This makes a heavy barrel have thicker walls, which allows it to absorb more heat and distort less. Heavy barrels are usually used by target shooters.
You have not yet asked a question. The Beast is an informal term used by a few private gunmakers to designate their version of a heavy caliber rifle.
