On an older revolver, you are not likely to find a model number, since they did not use model numbers. If you remove the grips, you should find the serial number stamped in the frame under the grips.

It's in different places on different handguns. On some guns, it's on the barrel. On some revolvers, it's under the crane. On some it's under the grips. Also, some guns don't have a model number printed on them.
Not without a detailed description of all markings, caliber, sights, barrel length, stock/grips, caliber, finish, condition, box, papers, accerssories, etc..
The S&W 78G has not been made in a long time. It was made between 1971-80. I suggest you check the web under "Airgun Repair" and contact the shops you find, ( I was able to locate a set of grips for an old Crosman 38 this way.) But it may take a few calls to locate a set.
sorry for my bad inglish,first to all the Honda magna use a 7/8 handlebars and the OEM grips are 5"5/16 long iam using an aftermarcket grips on my 1985 magna so if you find a 7/8 hole grips that grips are your new ones ...lunaluna305 from Costa Rica
