yes and no, I myself, as a male massage therapist believe that most men are much more comfortable with receiving a massage from a female massage therapist than a male massage therapist. men seem to react to massage as an intimate situation , not many think of it as a medical option for injury or stress.

What do you call a man who gives a massage?
A massage therapist is the proper term for both men and women that perform professional massage therapy. The terms masseuse (for females) and masseur for (men) refer to people that perform massage but have learned under apprenticeship and did not go to a school. These terms also are not politically correct. Just like we no longer say stewardess, but fight attendant. So all massage therapists that have learned their trade at a school for massage prefer to be called massage therapists. If they also have training in Asian modalities, they like to be called bodyworkers.

I don't know the specifics, however there are sites like platonicmassage.com and others that men can find women that are looking for a massage that do not charge. I found out about that site when I caught my ex using it to meet women and giving them massages, he claimed it was not much else and was only a platonic massage (whatever that means) and I suspect maybe you are going thru something similar. Then again, we all pay for things that to someone else makes little sense. I am not a psychologist lol but my guess is men pay because he wanted to touch the woman? I don't know lol
