Hopefully the Peyo company will put out a new line of fabrics to celebrate The Smurfs 50 year anniversary, but as yet they have not. If you aren't squeamish about germs or bodily fluids, many people are offering vintage used bedsheets on eBay dating from the 80's when the cartoon version Smurfs were at the height of pre-school glory and the stuff of nearly every child's Saturday morning.

There aren't any new Smurf fabrics, although it is possible to find vintage non-bedsheet fabric if you hunt creatively. These are usually novelty fabrics of the Smurfs playing sports or some such thing rather than traditional Smurfs in their village. The used bedding is the most popular due to their length, width, and cute scenes. These are being cranked out into boutique kiddie clothes faster than you can say "Oh my Smurfiness!"

For the little Smurfettes, cut the fabric into an A-line dress (the European Vida dress by the Farbenmix pattern line is all the rage if your an advanced seamstress), add a little ric rac, polka dots, ruffles, and trims, add an apron or other special twist and cutesy frills, get an adorable model to look sweetly into the camera, and these go for over about $150 and up on Etsy, eBay, and similar sites. For the little guys, simply applique cutouts from fabric of some of the characters onto a tee, raglan or sweatshirt, add a nice decopauge of more characters and scenes onto a pair of coordinating pants, add some bright trims, and these too sell for a hundred bucks a pop. Pair them as a brother/sister outfit, and they go for $300. No joke. These are hot, Hot, HOT right now! Smurfilicious!!
