It doesn't tell us in The Bible (NIV), but the important point is that one beleived and went to heaven but the other didn't believe therefore went to hell. You can read the story of the two criminals who died with Jesus at Luke 23:26-46.

Luke mainly.

It's Luke 23:39-43- (39)"One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!" (40) But the other crminal reubuked him. "Don't you fear God." he said, "Since you are under the same sentence? (41) We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong." (42) Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." (43) Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."

They are correct, except verse 43: In 43 the coma should be moved, there are no punctuation in the Bible, man added that-see below:

Luke 23:39 And one of the wrong doers which were hanged, Spoke to him saying, If you be Christ, save Yourself and us. 40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing you are in the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. 42 And he said unto Yeshua/Jesus, Lord, remember me WHEN You come into Your Kingdom. (43 should be read like this:)

43 And Yeshua/Jesus said to him, I say to you today, truly you shall be with Me in paradise.

Here in verse 43, there was no way the thief could have went anywhere but the grave, because Messiah HAD TO lay in the tomb-3 days and 3 nights as the sign of Jonah. He of didn't go anywhere until the afternoon of the 1st day of the week, He told the women in John 20:17: "Touch Me Not; for I have not yet ascended to My Father: )

And there's much more to it! Love in Messiah Yeshua's Service!

A:It is only in Luke's Gospel that one thief repented and Jesus promised to see him in heaven, while the other reviled Jesus.

The original New Testament gospel, now known as Mark's Gospel, simply states that there were two others crucified with Jesus, without suggesting that they either reviled Jesus or repented. Matthew's Gospel follows Mark reasonably faithfully but states that both the thieves reviled Jesus. John's Gospel alters the crucifixion story quite substantially but once again, as in Mark, simply reports that there were two others crucified with Jesus.

In the book of Luke, chapter 23 verse 43, Jesus speaks to one of the thieves being crucified with Him. This is the thief who asks Jesus to remember him when He comes into His Kingdom. Jesus says, "Truly I say to you, this day you will be with me in Paradise." This is an assurance to all people that all that is needed to get into Heaven is repentance and faith in Jesus as our Saviour.

You just know they had to have done something bad enough that got them crucified...But it doesn't say their names or where they're from. I believe the good thief was named "Dismas". I don't think it's in the bible but for some reason the name Dismas was given.

Why was the thief standing next to Jesus' cross?

The thief was crucified next to Jesus as a criminal punishment, as crucifixion was a common execution method at the time. This thief is often referred to as the "Good Thief" or the "Penitent Thief" as he expressed remorse for his sins and recognized Jesus as the Messiah before his death. This interaction led to Jesus promising him a place in paradise.
