Here are a few added scriptures regarding the sometimes subtle, but important, difference between 'hearing' and 'listening'.

HEARING alone often involves just the senses. One can literally 'hear' a voice speaking but won't necessarily react to what is being said (Mark 4:12/Ezekiel 33:32). Noah 'walked with God' (Genesis 6:9)and was called a 'preacher of righteousness'(2 Peter 2:5). People of his time undoubtedly HEARD his preaching, but most 'took no note'(Matthew 24:39) of what he said. They didn't LISTEN.(Matthew 13:13-15+18-23)

LISTENING involves the heart. It involves paying attention with the heart(Luke 2:19+51/Matthew 7:24-26), and ACTING on what one hears...Hearing AND OBEYING (Deuteronomy31:12 / Deuteronomy 21:18-20/Deuteronomy28:1+2/ Deuteronomy 30:17-20). Noah LISTENED to God...he DID 'according to all God commanded'(Genesis 7:5/Genesis 6:17/Hebrews 11:7), and for this, he was rewarded with life(1 Peter 3:20). John the Baptizer's parents, Zechariah and Elizabeth also walked blamelessly 'in accord with all the commandments..." They LISTENED. As pointed out above, LISTENING is what God requires. Doing...not just hearing.(Luke 8:18)(James 1:25)(Matthew 7:21-23)
