There are no barristers in the U.S., just lawyers. The requirements for entrance into the bar differ from state to state. In most states, bar entrance requires: 1) a JD degree from an ABA recognized law school 2) passing the MPRE (ethics exam) and state specific bar exam 3) passing a character and fitness examination. New york and massachusets allow Canadian LLB's (canadians are required to have previous undergrad education before entering the LLB program) to take the bar exam and practise. In other states you should get a llm in common law of the us as long as your llb in your country has simmilar sylabbus to us jd this allows you same privelleges as jd as long as you llb is good enough (i know in Canada it is)

In order to qualify or enroll for LLB, one should have at least 14 years of education. To accomplish LLB one has to finish 3 years of education and 1 year of legal practice. Anyone with a BA, BSc., B.Com, BS degree can enroll himself/herself for LLB.
The best thing you can do is PRACTICE the type of writing you will be doing A LOT. Try to write at least 3 practice papers before the exam, so you will know exactly what to do! The more you practice, the better you will be.
