There are many creatures that can be your pet as long as your class is hunter and you have learned the taming skill. Any Creature the same level as you or lower can be tamed to be your pet, they can level up with you. You have to feed them to keep them happy so they fight better.
There are also non-combat pets that you can buy from some vendors or that you can get from certain holiday quests. Check around the towns for vendor pets.
