Copied car keys are aren't easy to be copied and you will have a hard time starting a car if you have that copied car key since that key is very thin, it can easily broke and it's bigger than a normal keys at home.
In my case it was because the original key has a microchip in it that the copied key does not. In order to get a key with a microchip in it, I have to go to the dealer and order one at the price of around $85.

Did you mean shut off? My Grand Caravan will turn on and them immediately shut off when I use a copied key. I believe the key has an electronic signal as part of an anti theft system so a copied key only opens the door. It can start, but once the car senses the key does not have the electronic code, it shuts off.
It is the electronic immobiliser. When the ignition is switched on, it should light up breifly and then go out once the transponder in the key is verified. If it keeps flashing then the key is wrong or uncoded (i.e it's been copied but then not programmed to match the car). In this case the car cannot be started.
Most of the chip car keys are quite expensive to duplicate. Dealers are asking $300. Local locksmiths may be able to do it for $75.

If every safe key could be copied by anyone then there would be no point in this type of security, your best bet is to go direct to the manufacturer with this, they will either provide you with a replacement or direct you in the right way of someone who can help you with you safe key.
If you need to ask, you probably can't. It's also hard to imagine a situation in which a person with a legal right to keys would have to get them from an impression rather than just taking the original key to a locksmith to be copied.
