It probably doesn't have one. Serial numbers were not required before 1968 (the JC Higgins name was discontinued in 1961) and few manufacturers serialized their small caliber rifles and shotguns. I'm looking for the date of a J.C. Higgins bicycle with the serial number 705495

JC Higgins Model 20 Shotgun does not have a serial number. Guns were not required to have a serial number before 1938

Serial numbers do not designate calibers. Look on the brrel to ID the caliber.

Can't tell the caliber from just the serial number.

No way to know the caliber from just the serial number

It would be in 36 caliber or 44 caliber...

Virtually impossible to determine caliber by just the serial number.

I have a 9 shot 22 caliber jc Higgins ranger revolver serial number 583992. Any info you receive on this gun would be of great interest to me. I think they were sold at Sears around 1968-69. Those are not serial numbers but rather Sears reference numbers that tell the vendor 583.(High Standard) and the specific model and variation. Made 19580r 1959 through 1963.

Serial numbers on rifles and shotguns were not required until 1968. Most JC Higgins guns made prior to that never HAD a serial number- and yes, it is legal.

No. Serial numbers aer NOT UNIQUE. They are intended to be unique to a given make and model- but a gun can be rebarreled to a different caliber.

The manufacturer is normally stamped on the firearm next to the model, caliber, and serial number.

A JC Higgins model 50 58395 in excellent cond.will bring between 300to 400 dollars maybe more depending who wants it. These are very good high quality rifles.

Caliber can not be determined by serial number.

Impossible to tell from just the sn. if you found the serial number, you will be able to find the caliber of the pistol somewhere carved in the metal.

when was the j. c. Higgins model 41 serial number 103,19780 manufactured

1952-54. Value up to $125. http://www.histandard.info/PDF/Sears%20Rifles.pdf

By model, caliber and serial number.

Impossible to value a weapon with just the caliber and serial number to any degree of accuracy.

It is generally impossible to tell the caliber/gauge of a firearm from just the serial number.

Impossible to know the caliber with only a serial number. It should be marked on the barrel.

What model? Doublecheck your serial number.

Basically impossible to do with just the serial number.

your shotgun was made in 1947 guns made back then were not required to have a serial no. It was not until the Federal gun control act of 1968 that rifles or shotguns were required by federal law to have a serial number.J C Higgins brand guns were sold from 1945 to 1962 You will never see a J C Higgins rifle or shotgun with a factory serial number.
