They are perfectly legal to own as long as you only back up copies of games you have already bought - downloading games you don't have a genuine copy of to begin with is illegal. So it's perfectly fine to own one of these, as long as you're backing up cartridges so you don't have to take 20 cartridges on holiday with you for example! It's also useful to convert your DS / DSi into an MP3 player.

I would strongly urge you to be on the lookout for very cheap r4 ds cards, because they are not the real card, but another card with some stickers, etc.. on it to say R4 DS, but the things don't work the same (I mean the games and applications don't work the same).
buy from some online shop, you can save money with very low price.

∙ 14y agoI wouldn't trust anyone offering a free R4. Just pay for it, they value themselves out over and over again. Although there are many good alternatives like the Acekard 2i, and the R4i SDHC and they will run on DSi's new update v1.4
