Into CARDBOARD? How thick of cardboard are you working with? Any decent sign shop can contour cut something like shirt cardboard, but corrugated is a different story.
I would think hard about not using cardboard, though; there are cuttable plastics that will do a better job for you and not get frayed around the edges.
