Making your own dog food is a sure way to know what is in it - there are many sites that offer recipes as well as treat recipes! I use to do it.
If you Google all natural dog food without preservatives you will see some sites available that may be of interest.
If you want a natural good pet food go with a holistic formula. Here are a few brands: Canidae, Natural Balance, Solid Gold, Fromm, Eagle Pack, Wysong, Wellness, Timberwolf, and Taste of the Wild. Stay away from foods that have by-products, corn, wheat, soy, and dyes in them. Hope that helps you!
Answer
I apologize that my answer is going to be a little long but I have had many friends lose dogs lately and this has become a passion of mine and I have spent a ton of time researching. Home cooking for your dog is great but it is very time consuming and very difficult to maintain the correct balance of proteins and carbs over the long haul.
You have to learn to read through the optical illusions the AAFCO allows manufacturers to place on labels. Their definition of "Natural" includes rendered products. Rendered products (usually anything on your label containing the word "Meal" - chicken meal, meat meal, fish meal, etc ) are far worse for your dog even than byproducts. Manufacturers are allowed to use the word Organic in strange ways as well. I can found a dog food company tomorrow called Johnny's Organic Dog food and it is quite legal even though I have no organic ingredients.
A far more important thing to look for than natural is the phrase "Human Grade". This simply means that they start with ingredients that are fit for human consumption. No 4-D (dead, diseased, dying or disabled) animals which are legal and common in commercial grade foods. No moldy grains - the leading cause of grain Allergies - which are also allowed in pet grade foods.
Without rambling on too long, if you absolutely need to feed a commercial food try to find something like the Halo line that is carried at Petco. It is human grade and their dry food contains no "meal". Having said that if you want what I consider to be the absolute best dog food on the market I suggest a small boutique company that has a small but loyal following amongst the rich and famous. Lucky Dog Cuisine.
They do an all natural, human grade food that is made from only the finest human grade ingredients. It is difficult to find outside of the Southeast United states but I believe they now have or will shortly have an online delivery program. I feed my dog that exclusively and I have a couple of friends who have now started to mix it in with a "no meal" dry food.
Hope this helps.
Natural
=Toxic=
Periodic table will list elements and not compounds like methylated spirits. Denatured alcohol or methylated spirits is ethanol that has additives to make it undrinkable (poisonous), to discourage recreational consumption.
Canned food replaces some of its' nutrition with preservatives which are slightly toxic, (in other words, processed food takes away the good and replaces it with the bad) to stay "fresh" longer. Real fresh food is far healthier than canned food is simply because it does not contain these semi-toxic preservatives.
No, commercial charcoal uses chemicals to increase and prolong burn. Most of these additives are highly toxic, and should never be burned inside. I have no idea if natural wood charcoal would be the same, Maybe small companies offer a more pure product.
the natural acids are acids which are not much toxic . they are naturally available like lactic acid

Hundreds of manufacturers produce organic and natural cleaning supplies that are non-toxic.

The answer depends in part on your application. Also, 'best' in what sense? Formaldehyde is a very effective preservative for biological specimens, but is not suitable as a food preservative if you intend to eat the food, as it is quite toxic. Copper compounds are excellent wood preservatives, but are also quite toxic. If you are looking for a non toxic food preservative, try salt or vinegar!
Some additives with strong odor and toxic or colored are added (methanol, acetone, isopropyl alcohol, etc.) to avoid consumption by drunkmen.
