The headlight prevents you from getting at the screw straight-on. I broke it loose with an offset Phillips screwdriver, and then backed it out with a regular Phillips. 4. Remove the plastic cover, and you will see two screws. Remove them. 5. Now you can pull the turn signal assembly forward and out. 6. To remove the bulb holders from the assembly, twist counterclockwise and pull out. 7. Pull straight outward to remove the bulbs. To assemble, follow the steps in reverse. Note that there are two plastic rods on the back end of the turn signal assembly that you will insert into two holes in the channel of the fender.

ALSO: It IS possible to change the bulb yourself even IF the owner previous to you has broken the lever that controls the motion of the headlight assembly. I know this because I just did it. There is a small, rectangular, black button that would have controlled the motion of the lever to the headlight assembly before whoever broke the thing did whatever they were doing to it. Depress that button with a screwdriver or other sturdy poking device. Don't put the screwdriver down yet! You still need it! The lever just controls a plastic ring inside the mounting. That ring houses a plastic track on which the inner peg of the headlight assembly moves as you pull it out. Use the screwdriver to pry some of the adhesive loose around the front of the headlight assembly. This will make the rest of the process easier. Now find the back of the assembly and give it a good shove out. Even with the track resting uneven inside that ring, you should be able to get it to move a LITTLE bit. I was able to get a centimeter or so on the front. This was plenty of room. Look at that empty track where the lever used to be and laugh at it. You are gonna be fine. You will not have to pay VW the labor fee to do this. We almost there. Using the hands the creator gave you, pull the flat, top part of the plastic housing assembly directly AWAY from the headlight assembly with your left hand, and pull out on the headlight assembly from the front with your right. You only have to move it enough to get the peg out of that inner ring track. It's only about three inches long, and once it's out, it's out. After some maneuvering, you should be able to pull the headlight assembly all the way out and continue with the rest of the instructions. Remeber, exert some force on the thing. It's ok to manhandle it a little. I mean, it's already broken. Worst case scenario, you'll have to go to the dealership like you were going to in the first place. Anyway, this whole process took me about ten minutes to figure out. Good luck!

I am facing the same problem with my 2003 Beetle. Some have suggested drilling a smail (1/16") hole in the slider and using an awl to move the slider lock up. How Change headlight 2005 Ford Expedition?
This could be easy or it could be a REAL pain in the butt. I found out the hard way, by trusting a vague internet answer to this same question, that it can be harder than it would seem. Now that I have done it a couple of times, and broken 2 little parts on my car, it is now pretty easy! Here goes: 1. Using a 13/32 mm socket (you will probably need an extension), unbolt a total of 3 bolts per headlight. There are 2 on top that run parallel to the ground, and a 3rd one that is VERY long, running perpindicular to the ground, in a hole between the 1st 2 bolts. 2. Now the hard part--that is all you need to pull the headlight out, but pulling it out is a HUGE pain in the butt and you risk breaking something like I did! You DON'T want to pull on the outermost edge of the headlight assembly, thereby rotating the light inwards towards the middle of the car--this is how I broke a plastic tab off where the 3rd bolt (mentioned above) goes. No big deal--just annoying! I think the best way is to pull the assembly up (from the bottom) and out (from the innermost portion of the headlight assembly) first--once you clear the flimsy plastic surround of the grill/front bumper, you can pull on the outermost edge of the headlight assembly and pull the entire thing forward. 3. Finally, if you are replacing the regular headlight (not the high beams), then remove the rubber boot to expose the lamp. Then gently rotate the bulb assembly counterclockwise a little bit and pull the lamp out. 4. Take a screwdriver and gently pry the tab on the electrical connector upwards to release the bulb assembly from the electrical connector. 5. Attach the new bulb assembly to the electrical connector, then put it back by aligning the 3 tabs and turning the bulb assembly clockwise until it stops. 6. Replace the rubber boot. 7. TEST the light 1st, then if all is ok, slide the headlight back in--it goes in VERY easily (about 10x easier than it was to take it out). 8. Replace the 3 bolts, and grab a cool drink!

Removal of Headlight lens requires a special tool to release the snaps located on the inner body rim. The first time I tried it (without the tool) I broke the snaps and had to replace the entire assembly. Remember the lens assembly has to be waterproof/weather resistant, so any cracks will lead to failure of the headlight element. My advice (if this is your first change) is to take it to the dealer and hover over the mechanic, asks multiple questions and go find the tool to purchase. Believe me, it's worth the money and eliminates the aggravation of dealing with an impossible front end design.
How do you replace the headlight bulb on a sebring 2001?
I just did this today on the passenger side headlight of my 2001 sebring. It took some time to figure it out, but I got it done today. You do have to remove the headlight assembly to change the bulb. Instructions: 1. Unscrew the 2 small bolts that hold the assembly on, they are above the headlight assembly near the corners of the headlight. There should be 2 larger bolts between the small bolts that don't need to be removed. On mine, 1 of the small bolts had "4.8" on it and the large bolts had "9.8" on them. The recommended tool is a socket wrench, but I was able to do it with a crescent wrench held vertically. 2. Pull headlight assembly out in the car's forward direction. On the edge of the blinker side of the headlight, near the vertical center of the headlight, there is a peg on the assembly that goes in a hole on the frame, preventing the assembly from sliding sideways until the peg is out of the hole. After that is out, you have to get the bottom lip of the assembly above the top of the fender, I found that this took some force to pull out, but I don't think I broke anything by using that force. Note that you can only pull this out so far because of the wires connected to it. 3. Unplug the wire socket from the old bulb. To do this you'll probably need a screwdriver or other long metal rod (I used the long bolt that was previously holding the assembly in place) to get the plastic hooks of the wire socket around the side of the block protruding from the top of the bulb housing. Once the plastic hooks are no longer hooked onto the block, you can slide the wire socket off, unplugging it. 4. Unscrew the ring with ridges on the outside (only requires 1/3 of a rotation max, then it is unlocked and pulls off). I found it difficult to hand turn but was eventually able to do it with just my hand. 5. Pull the old bulb out, it's pretty straightforward. 6. Put the new bulb in, it has 3 grooves on it that line up with 3 ridges on the bulb housing, and as I was told by the autoparts clerk, don't touch the bulb with bare hands because your skin oils will decrease its lifespan. I chose to wear rubber gloves for this step to avoid contact with the bulb. 7. Screw the ridged wheel back on to lock in the bulb. 8. Plug the wire socket into the new bulb, the plastic hooks should be locked around the protruding block. At this point you can test the headlights to see if the new bulb works. 9. Slide the headlight assembly back into place; I found that I had to put the peg in the hole first, then try to get the bottom lip of the assembly past the top of the fender, this took some force, and there were some sounds that gave me some concern, but I don't think anything was broken. 10. Screw the bolts back in.

My freind, let me start off by saying that I am not a mechanic... Although I have just purchased a 1989 Honda Accord and needed to change the front left turn signal bulb. I started off by prying at the lense, This is a huge No No!! On my Accord directly under the lense is a panel that pops out. After I pulled this panel I got on the ground and looked up into the hole. What I saw was a white piece of styrofoam looking "block". In this block was a hole with a Phillips head screw. I turned the scerw and the lense became loose. I continue to turn the screw until I was able to remove the whole lense assembly. Then I was able to access the burned out bulb. I reversed the steps and now the bulb works.Here is what I did on my 1988 Accord1. Open the retractable headlights.2.
