It's a matter of opinion and taste in literature like with every book out there. If you've read the Eragon series (read the book, not watched the movie) and liked it you'll definitely like this series. I got the first one out from the library to try it out and got hooked, in my opinion it's a great work of young adult fiction.

As from what I can read, yes it is the last book in the series but there also seems to be one more book coming out called the Lost Stories containing side stories to fill in gaps and background information from throughout the series
