Whoever answered "TECHNO MUSIC" is delusional or just playing with you... *cough* A song without lyrics are "instrumental" songs. They are composed to convey thought without needing the use of words. There are also "karaoke" songs which are songs that have had their lyrics taken out of the original song so that you could sing along to it. You actually call a piece of music with no lyrics such as a classical concerto or metal Instrumental a "piece", although it can be called an instrumental as well. You "sing" a song and you "play" a piece.
That was Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

What does instrumental music use in place of text to create a sense of meaning?

Of course, if it's music, you can play it on any instruments. You won't get the synthesizer sounds of course, but it could still sound good.
