So, he got a law degree and then became a lawyer who specialized in civil rights cases.

He decided that he could be a stronger advocate for them if he had a law degree; so after working for five years and saving up some money, he went to law school at Harvard. When he graduated in 1991, he returned to Chicago to become a civil rights attorney.
