The word or name "Orleans" is French in origin. Chicago, being a hub for goods coming in from evey direction, including areas of the Louisiana Purchase and Canada meant that the people of French ancestry had an influence on the area. Orleans is also the name of a city in France. It is doubtful that it had anything to do with New Orleans, in Louisiana.
