Where did Chile get its name and what does it stand for?

A spanish explorer called Carlos Chileno found this long stretch of coastal land and named it after himself, he called it Chile. He was ambushed by natives in the mountains in the north later that week and along with his crew was killed at the peak of Mount Pikuwatchu now know as Ojos del Salado.
