Several different generations of change seeking Chinese used Tienanmen square as a place for manifestation. During Mao Zedung's rule millions of Chinese students gathered there everyday to protest the government until, of course, the Tienanmen incident. On May 4th 1919, students demanding political and social reform gathered there to protests. That was the first mass movement in China's history.

Maggie Lena Walker was the first woman bank president in the country. Her first protest came about when she joined other black students in protesting their graduation in 1883, which had been moved to a church instead of the school the white students would graduate from. A compromise allowed the students to receive their diplomas at the school.

Racial segregation and inequality provoked the massive protest at Kent State University. This was concerning black students who felt mistreated. They wanted to advance their human rights, and therefore their own causes.
