I believe you can be an ordained deacon. Under the Roman Rite, you cannot be married and a priest. There may be some exceptions for Episcopal priests who were married and who converted. Also, the Melchite Rite, which accepts Roman authority, might allow a married priesthood. In some of the eastern… rites of Catholicism a married man is allowed to become a priest but a priest is not allowed to marry after he has been ordained. ( Full Answer )

"Pastor" -- if he's a pastor; if not, "Reverend" is normally the title used. . In Australia, "Reverend" is commonly used for Baptist pastors who have undergone extra study. . It is common for Baptist ministers to be called "reverend" but that is not a title that is found in the Bible that's used… in reference to ministers. The word appears in the Bible (in the Old Testament) only one time, and it is describing God. Psalms 111:1 (KJV): Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation. Verse 9: He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name. The more appropriate title would be "brother", "preacher", or "pastor" (if he is a pastor). These three titles are found in the New Testament and any of them are acceptable titles of address. Acts 22:13 (KJV): Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him. 1 Timothy 2:7 (KJV): Whereunto I am ordained a preacher , and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. Ephesians 4:11 (KJV): And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; The most common way Baptist ministers are addressed is "Brother." The word "Brother" is used in the Bible as a title of address, like the word "mister" is used. The word "preacher" and "pastor" are occupations. By the way, the Bible also forbids the title of "father" for it is a reference to God himself, not man. Matthew 23:9 (KJV): And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. ( Full Answer )

The titles of clergy members varies from denomination to denomination, in most cases: - Protestant clergy may be addressed as Reverend or Pastor. If they hold the title of doctor or dean their surname is added to the proper title, as in "the Reverend Dr. Smith". - Catholic priests are Father, an…d as above you add any other titles as applicable. - A monk is usually called Brother, - A nun is Sister, - A Mormon is Elder, - Jewish clergy are called Rabbi with or without the use of their last name. - A Pagan High Priest is Lord and a High Priestess is Lady, either with or without the use of first name. - Quaker I believe use Brother, as do Mennonite If you are not certain, always err on the side of manners, Reverend is acceptable to most and as soon as you can comfortably ask, it is a good idea to find out for future use. While all of the above is certainly true to the best of my knowledge, I would like to add that sometimes in the Southern Baptist Church they also use "Brother" to refer to clergy, deacons and other male members of the church. They reserve "Pastor" or "Reverend" for ordained ministers. ( Full Answer )

It is commonly held that James A. Garfield, our 20th president (from March 4, 1881 -- September 19, 1881) was an "ordained" minister. This is partly true. Garfield was an ardent follower of the Disciples of Christ faith. As he became active in the church, he gave sermons, performed weddings, lead fu…nerals, visited the sick, etc - essentially performing all the duties of a minister. However, the Disciples of Christ, at this time did not "ordain" ministers in the traditional and formal ecclesiastical tradition.** So, as I said, I believe the answer is yes and no. He did not receive an official diploma declaring him an ordained minister. But, if you were to ask members of his congregation, they would indeed assert that he was a minister. ( Full Answer )
It depends what you mean by the term "ordained". United States The fastest and easiest way to become ordained is with the Universal Life Church. Online ULC's, such as the Universal Life Church Seminary, The ULC Bookstore or ULC Headquarters, issue legal ordinations with the click of the mouse a…nd stroke of a few keys. You input your information, it is recorded into the church's records, and just like that you are an ordained minister. Other churches have established seminaries that can take up to eight years, depending on the church, before becoming ordained. These are usually for more established, mainstream religions. In the United States of America, the first amendment of the constitution guarantees that: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . Thus the government can not tell a church who it may ordain or how it may conduct an ordination. Canada For a Christian or Jew, in Canada, if you want the authority to legally place 'Reverend' before your name you must belong to a recognized 'ordaining party'. The specific requirements will vary depending on the organization, however this is usually a time and labor intensive process. To become legally registered with the government, you must be recommended for ordination by the legally ordained local leadership to the licensing denominational head. You would then be charged by the official leadership of the ordaining organization with fulfilling the great commission world-wide and be expected to know and conduct yourself within the context of the laws of the land and the Word of God. You must renew your credentials annually through the licensing denomination's system of accountability to legally remain ordained.. There is another popular ordaining process in which many churches and religious organizations will 'ordain' members specific to the function of their local protocols. For example, once you have completed the specific training process for beginning a mission, you do not require licensing or legal ordination. The belief is that God ordains each of children as his ministering servants, to go out and make disciples of all nations, as commanded by Jesus in the gospels. Using this process you will not satisfy the legal definition of "ordained minister." ( Full Answer )
Biblical Response: Mans ignorance allows one to do anything these days. If God were toanswer this question I am sure His answer would be no. Man cannot ordain man to become a minister just because he haspassed some exam. That is not how God works. A man must first havefaith in the existence in Go…d and his son Jesus the Christ. He mustrepent of all of his sins, be baptized and receive the priesthoodthrough a duly ordained minister as were Peter, James and John whowere ordained by Christ himself. Man cannot take this authorityupon himself except he be called of God and by the administering ofangels. Secular Response: I'm not deleting the original answer posted above. Though manywould consider it incorrect, it does represent the viewpoint ofmany others -- and could be considered, from that standpoint alsoto be "correct". Legally however, the answer is far different. The short answer is "Yes". Online ordinations are accepted in all50 states. Some localities do require additional credentials, suchas a Statement of Good Standing . What Makes Online Ordinations Legitimate? First let's touch on the legal, and then we can address thespiritual. Legally, the constitution of the U.S. prevents thegovernment from regulating the practice of religion this includesprohibiting an establishment of criteria for ordination. The landmark case, further establishing the legal legitimacy ofordination by mail is the decision of 1974 by the U.S. DistrictCourt, Eastern District of California, Civil No. S-1954, in whichthe judge ruled: . "Neither this Court, nor any branch of this Government, willconsider the merits or fallacies of a religion. Nor will the Courtcompare the beliefs, dogmas, and practices of a newly organizedreligion with those of an older, more established religion. Norwill the Court praise or condemn a religion, however excellent orfanatical or preposterous it may seem. Were the court to do so, itwould impinge upon the guarantees of the first amendment.". The judge went on to say that online ordinations were analogous to"to mass conversions at a typical revival or religious crusade" andwas therefore a valid practice permitted under the U.S.Constitution. That said many of the large denominations may not recognize yourordination. Some of them do not even recognize ordinations by othermajor denominations! That is their right, and in no way affects thelegal status of your ordination. How you conduct yourself will, inlarge part, determine how well you are accepted by other churches. Spiritually, neither Jesus, nor his disciples, nor any of thefounding fathers of the Christian church, were formally ordained. The Bible commends all to go forth and spread the word. It does notspecify that this responsibility is only for the ordained.Ordination is a function of organized religion to ensure that thosespeaking for that particular religion or sect are authorized andqualified to do so. If (when?) you have a large organization -- youwill want that control too! Some localities, in order to register as a wedding officiate, willrequire that the clergy member establish a local congregation.Though your congregation may be just you and the wedding partyinitially, that is a congregation. Does the IRS have a Role? Some would have you believe that the Internal Revenue Servicedetermines the legitimacy or legality of a ministry and itsordinations. Nothing could be further from the truth. The IRS onlydetermines whether an organization qualifies for tax exemption, nothing more. Not all organizations will qualify. Not allorganizations choose to request tax exempt status. Not qualifyingor applying for a tax exemption does not establish your legalstatus. The IRS definitely does not decide "right to ordain". Theconstitution, as the U.S. District Court ruled, establishes thatRose Ministries (see link below) has the right to ordain, accordingto our requirements and beliefs. Conclusion Our society has come to recognize this practice by organizedreligion and has even codified requirements for ordination in orderfor an individual to be authorized for certain practices orprivileges (notably officiating a wedding). Organized denominations, generally, do not allow for individuals toexpress their personal beliefs and feelings towards religion.Rather, they understandably prefer that the canon of theirorganization be perpetuated. Hopefully, we fulfill that role, enabling individuals to pursue truth as they are led. ( Full Answer )

I've never heard of being self ordained, but as far as being ordained at all and marrying yourself, no. Marriage is a legal contract where you are required to have so many people bear witness, be present and such. The minister is actually a separate part of the contract and must be a separate entity…. I would take up question of this sort with the local City Clerk though as laws on marriage very from here to there. ( Full Answer )

You extend your help to an ordained minister in exactly the same way you'd extend your help to any other person in need. Don't let the person's ordination color your responses to whether you offer help, or to the type of help you offer. Extend the help you feel they need, or the help they may be… asking - or seem to be asking - for. Imagine if a friend who is a doctor became ill, and clearly needed emotional support. Would you hold back that support for fear a doctor already knows all about their illness, and has sufficient support from their medical colleagues? Of course not! Imagine if this minister for whom you are concerned held holy orders in a faith completely unfamiliar, even meaningless, to you. If a minister of that unknown faith needed help, would you feel uncomfortable extending that help? Surely not! Perhaps you feel you have little to offer in the way of emotional, spiritual, or even material, support to a person trained and ordained to provide such support themselves? Consider that a person in their position might feel all the more lonely in their time of need, knowing full well that others could be holding back for fear of proving unequal to supporting a person who traditionally should be supporting them . This might make it all the more difficult for a minister of your faith to show need, and so, in turn, those who would offer support could see this as a sign their support would be unwelcome, or even inadequate, and so hold back the very human strength and comfort needed at this time. Give whatever help you can to this minister, as a friend or simply as a person in need and, if you feel it necessary, encourage others to do so. And, of course, respect privacy at all times, just as you'd do for any friend in a vulnerable situation; don't repeat any conversations you might have. ( Full Answer )

To become an ordained minister in the AME Church, one must first be a regular and in good standing member of an AME Church for two years. If you feel a calling, you must then make your wishes known to the pastor of that charge. The pastor will then determine if you are pursuing the itinerant or loca…l track. You must give a trial sermon at which point, the church will have a church conference in which to vote a person to be submitted as a potential licentiate. At the quarterly conference at that church, the Presiding Elder will then issue a preaching license, valid for a year. A candidate will be taken before the District Conference to be voted to be admitted into Annual Conference. It is only after these steps will you be allowed to go to the admission's class of the Board of Examiners (BOE). It takes five years to go through the BOE. If taking the itinerancy route, in three years after starting the BOE, you will be ordained a Deacon if you have a bachelor's degree. To be an itinerant Elder, you must have a Master's degree from an accredited seminary. To be a Local Deacon, you must have attended the BOE for three years. To be a Local Elder, you must complete all five years of the BOE. Deacons, both itinerant and local, can marry, bury, baptize, and assist with communion. Elders, both itinerant and local are the only ones that are able to consecrate the elements for communion and they perform the same rites as Deacons. ( Full Answer )
