When did the Berlin wall go up and come down?

the Berlin wall was built on Sunday August 13, 1961 by the German Democratic Republic (GDR.) They built it so East Germans could not escape from the Soviet Union. The end of the Berlin Wall and the beginning of the reunification of Germany started in the summer of 1989, when Hungary decided to take down the Iron Curtain and open the borders which created an exodus of thousands of East Germans going to West Germany. It came down on the 11th and 12th of November 1989.

How did Germany after the Berlin Wall go down?

The reunification of Germany into the BRD (Bundesrepublik Deutschland) and the collapse of the Soviet Union brought unprecedented growth to the country. However there is still stigma associated with East Germans, derogatorily referred to as 'Ossis' (Easterners). East Germans are still discriminated against, East Germany is still behind the West, and many nowadays believe that perhaps the country was better off divided.

What ended Communism in Germany?

Assuming you mean in the German Democratic Republic, more commonly known as East Germany, it was a process relating to the fall of Communism in neighboring countries. In the 1980s, as the Soviet Union began to lose power, and countries like Poland and Romania started turning against their Communist overlords, even the extremely repressive East German government started to feel the same pain. Despite this, the East's government resisted relaxing of their oppression, even though the Soviets and others were doing just that. The last straw was when countries like Hungary began opening their borders in 1989. Since the 1960s, East Germans found it incredibly difficult to visit West Germany- the East German government was afraid their people would visit the West and find out they liked it better there, and then not want to come back. With other countries opening their borders, suddenly East Germans could visit the West again, and it worked out just as the East's government feared. East Germans began crossing the border with Hungary in large numbers, and from there, would go to Austria, and then West Germany. The anti-government demonstrations in East Germany continued. The Berlin Wall, a major symbol of the East's oppression, became a focal point of the protests. In November 1989, the Eastern government finally gave in and officially began allowing Germans to cross the border freely; East Germans began tearing down the Berlin Wall on November 9th. Huge demonstrations broke out, especially a huge one in the city of Leipzig, and it became clear that the East German government was no longer able to control things. The East's government collapsed when all of the government officials resigned at once, and a temporary government immediately began negotiations for East Germany to rejoin with West Germany. The reunification process was completed almost a year later, on October 3, 1990, which is now a national holiday in Germany.

Was there a Balloon escape from east Berlin?

Yes, there was a notable balloon escape from East Berlin in 1979 when two families, the Strelzyk and the Wetzel families, used a homemade hot air balloon to flee to West Germany. After working secretly for several months, they successfully launched the balloon and crossed the border, landing safely in West Germany. This daring escape highlighted the lengths to which people would go to escape the oppressive regime of East Germany. Their story has since been depicted in various media, including the 2018 film "Balloon."
