The reunification of Germany into the BRD (Bundesrepublik Deutschland) and the collapse of the Soviet Union brought unprecedented growth to the country. However there is still stigma associated with East Germans, derogatorily referred to as 'Ossis' (Easterners). East Germans are still discriminated against, East Germany is still behind the West, and many nowadays believe that perhaps the country was better off divided.
It used to be on a half of Germany so Berliners couldn't go through the western side. But,The wall got torn down in 1989.
Berlin wall separated east and western Germany. western Berlin belonging to Federal Republic of Germany. the wall was built 1961 and opened 1991. while its existence a socialist dictatorship prohibited the people of eastern Germany to pass the border.
the Berlin wall was built on Sunday August 13, 1961 by the German Democratic Republic (GDR.) They built it so East Germans could not escape from the Soviet Union. The end of the Berlin Wall and the beginning of the reunification of Germany started in the summer of 1989, when Hungary decided to take down the Iron Curtain and open the borders which created an exodus of thousands of East Germans going to West Germany. It came down on the 11th and 12th of November 1989.
The fall of the Berlin Wall represented th fall of communism in Germany. Before the wall came down, East Berliners were not allowed to go to the west side of the city because they were communists. (literally) The fall of the wall signified the fall of communism and the introduction of freedom and capitalism into the east side of Berlin
Because the Berlin Wall was built by the east German communist rulers to prevent east German people from escaping to the capitalist west.

Before the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961, one could move freely throughout Greater Berlin (Gross-Berlin). There were no physical barriers, and people living in the Soviet sector could cross into the Western sectors. In principle, one could be stopped by customs officials but it hardly ever happened. There were a few residents of East Berlin who worked in West Berlin and vice versa. Berlin was, in effect, a gap in the Iron Curtain. Moreover, there was no barrier between East Berlin and the rest of East Germany. Westerners were, however, not supposed to go beyond East Berlin.
West Germany benefited greatly from the presence of the Berlin Wall. Not only did it provide their underground network of street artists with a nearly endless canvas, it also cut down on cross city competition in most sales industries, most notably being the baking boom of 1978. Bakers up until this point had to decrease their prices to compete with Berlin market. By cutting the city in half, it increased the profits of the middle class, seeing as roughly 48% of them were bakers. it wasn't until Optimus Prime released East Germany from oppression and destroyed the Berlin wall with help from Megatron and that puffy white guy who sell tires.
We gave food and supplies to West (west, or east, i think its west) Berlin. Since Germany banned us from going in and driving supplies to them, we decided to get creative and start airlifting the supplies to them. This was of course, to keep W. Berlin from falling to Communism, which the other half of Germany was. Oh yeah, and the Berlin wall was put up, so people could not go to the W. Berlin area (coming from E. Berlin), however you could go to E. Berlin (coming from W. Berlin).
East Germans could go out of east germay and west Germans could go out of west Germany and it was the fall of Hitler and Stalin and the end of communism.
At the time people in East Germany were so tired of being behind the wall people started a mass exodus. A loop call the "Berlin Loop" was a place where Easterners could still go into Western Germany. Millions of people, especially the younger generations, left via this route to be free of the oppressive regime of the Soviets. The wall was built to control the flow of people out of the city.
