He then skinned its hide to make a lion-skin cape, one of his most distinctive attributes. Hera afterwards placed the lion amongst the stars as the constellation Leo.
The Nemean lion had a hide so tough, arrows or even sword blades could not pierce it, so Hercules figured he may as well use the lion's own claws, which he did.
