pearl harbor
__
Pearl Harbor was relatively late in the Japanese war. Japan launched an invasion of Manchuria in 1931, and this is seen as a prelude to WW2.
In 1939 Japan began an aggressive expansion across the Pacific capturing British, Dutch and French colonies as they went.

How did who become involved with the war effort?
Because the U.S. were isolationists until Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. They vowed that they were going to be nutreal, but when Japan destroyed Pearl Harbor the U.S declared war on Japan the next day. Then Germany declared war on the U.S. so they got involved into WWII.

Because they didn't want to get involve at first until Japan bombed their fleet which got them mad.
There is no good answer to this; World War Two is widely considered to have begun in 1939, but the Japanese had been at war for much longer than that. For Japan, World War Two was an extension of their ongoing conflicts in Korea and China. Japan first occupied Korea in the early 1910's, and the beginning of the Second Sino-Japanese War kicked off with the Mukden Incident in September of 1931. From there, the war would eventually merge into the greater conflict of World War Two.
