Where did Mark's audience reside?

Mark was not writing for Palestinian Jews, because a Palestinian Jew would immediately detect Mark's lack of knowledge of Palestinian geography. In fact, he was unlikely to have been writing for Jews at all, because he also seemed unfamiliar with some aspects of Jewish ritual, which would have been equally apparent to Diaspora Jews and Palestinian Jews. This shows that he was writing for Gentiles. Although the idea that he was writing for the Christians of Rome has strong support, this is unlikely as Mark was written in Greek Koine, not Latin, and there is internal evidence that the author knew Latin. Greece, the Middle East and Egypt are the likely places to find his audience.
