I think, you don't have to perform penance for Christ. Christ's work of salvation accomplished on the cross is finished complete. It is by accepting this work done by Christ that your relationship with God can be restored. There is nothing a person can do to make his/her self acceptable to God - so why do penance?Ephesians 2:8 For it is by God's grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God's gift, so that no one can boast about it.
The second part of the film where Milarepa meets his Master Marpa the Translator and his ultimate enlightenment was stated to be released in 2009 as per the information at the end of the first part of the film. Still waiting :) (March 2011
If you mean reward for the 10/12 labors, there was no reward. He was to perform these as penance for having killed his wife and three children.
Penance is a noun. Penance is a religious discipline. I'll chalk up this drudgery as penance.
