Norovirus was first "discovered/described" by a scientist named Zahowsky in 1929 and called the 'winter vomiting disease '. In 1968 an outbreak at a school in Norwalk Ohio prompted attention by health officials who investigated and termed the illness as "Norwalk" virus. Later, the name was changed to Norovirus.
It is unknown 'where' it originates, but it's been around a VERY long time.
