Amundsen always sailed from Christina/ Oslo, Norway which was his home.
To the South Pole
The first undisputed sighting of the Pole was on May 12, 1926 by Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen and his American sponsor Lincoln Ellsworth from the airship Norge. In the strictest sense of attaining a pole, this does not count, as he never set foot there. Although some people credit Amundsen with being the first man to reach both poles.
Amundsen set off exploring at age 21 and he did so, actively until he died at age 53. His departure dates depended on his destination.

Amundsen's full name was Roald Engelbregt Gravning Amundsen.
Amundsen was a successful explorer who wanted to be first. At the time, Amundsen had already been to Antarctica, and had been part of the crew that first wintered-over in Antarctica, on a ship in 1899. Although there had been attempts to reach the South Pole in subsequent years, this benchmark had not yet been met. So in 1910, Amundsen prepared for a polar journey, and en route, notified his crew -- and his competitor, Captain Scott -- that he was headed for Antarctica. All assumptions were that he went there to be the first to set foot at the South Pole
Roald Amundsen left Oslo on the start of his Antarctic expedition on the 3rd of June 1910.
Because Roald Amundsen was better prepared and had more luck than him. That is a very simplistic way of looking at it. 1, Amundsen's route was shorter. 2, He had the better weather. 3, Amundsen's journey was simply a dash for the Pole. He did no surveying, no scientific work, in fact during the journey only two photographs were taken. Scott's scientific work was that much that scientists only finished analysing it in the 1960's.
Scott started at Cape Evens on Ross Island. Amundsen started at the Ross Ice Shelf at the same time as Scott.

Roald Amundsen and Robert Falcon Scott both explored Antarctica at the same time in 1911. Amundsen was aware of Scott's objective, but Scott was not aware that Amundsen was right behind him. Roald Amundsen reached the South Pole first on 14th of December, 1911. Amundsen reported that he saw no sign of Scott. Scott reached the South Pole on 17th of January, 1912, acknowledging in his diary that Amundsen had got there a month earlier. The last members of the Scott expedition was found dead by a relief party two years later in 1913.
Roald Amundsen got to the South Pole 1st and just a month later, Robert Falcon Scot made it to the South Pole but sadly died on his journey back because of the cold and hunger.
