After he was captured in Scotland in 1940, he spent the rest of the war imprisoned in England. He was sent to Nuremberg after the war to join other leading Nazis, for war crimes and was convicted and served life without parole at Spandau Prison in Berlin. He died in 1987 under mysterious circumstances.
