It has been reported by observers that the aboriginals would sleep out in the open in the grass or sand. William Dampier reported that they had no houses and didn't use any coverings when they slept.

Australian Aborigines were semi-nomadic and lived in basic shelters. When they lived their traditional lifestyle, the Australian indigenous people had simple lean-tos called humpies. They were made from branches, grass, bark and twigs. Humpies were just temporary shelters ideal for the semi-nomadic lifestyle of the Aborigines.

The Aborigines simply lay on the ground. They did not have beds, furs or skins or any other such thing.

In colder region such as Tasmania, they wrapped themselves in furs during winter, but these furs were not used as beds.
